Edging Closer

Wow. Microsoft is doing this, and doing this quickly. This week they released the first Beta of the new Chromium based Edge. Some say Edgeium, some say Chredge, or the NEW Edge. I think the Sharper Edge could work, or maybe even E#? To go along with the various languages that Microsoft has introduced. I digress.

Edge is almost here. As you may have read my enthusiasm in regards to Edge in Taking It To The Edge, I am excited. I really wanted to use Microsoft Edge when it debuted in Windows 10 all those years ago, but I couldn’t quite get myself to do it. The glacial pace of updating it I think is what finally did it in- it just had too far to catch up to be feature-par with the competition. I stuck to Firefox because it had everything I needed without the Google “Big Brother” feel. Since Edge came out I made it my daily driver in both the Canary and the Developer builds. I would tell anyone running Windows 7 still (I know you are out there), go grab Edge Beta today. Its far superior, and more secure than IE. It is ready, I think we aren’t far from GR, RTW, RTM (maybe right before Ignite?).

Microsoft has really increased the feature set these last few weeks, released GPO’s for us Admins, and put some polish around the rougher, er, edges. They even laid out a roadmap of what to expect in the coming months – something I wish the folks at the Windows Insider program could/would do.

Go ahead download Edge, give it a spin. Its probably one of the more stable betas for Microsoft in recent memory. Try it out on your Mac, Windows 7, 8, 10, and mobile devices. Give them feedback, they are for sure listening!
