It’s Here – Edge Released to Stable Channel

After months of testing and a year after the initial announcement; Microsoft has released the new Edge Browser to all supported systems in the “stable” channel. As promised this also includes the now unsupported Windows 7. Edge is now available on Android, iOS, Windows (7, 8, 8.1, 10), and MacOS; how’s that for cross-platform?

I’ve been looking forward to this release for a long time, and have been using the Canary build daily at work as well as the Dev build daily at home, while using the beta on a laptop. I met some of the team at the Ignite conference and it was fun to share in their enthusiasm, as well as to get an awesome sticker of the newly released logo. Microsoft means business with this browser, and not just for business but for consumers as well. It focuses on privacy, compatibility, and speed while retaining a fast release cadence that has become the norm for browsers in the last several years.

We have been testing this at work with a group of beta testers, and went live with a staggered rollout on day 1. From what we have seen our users are excited to be using this browser, and from an IT perspective we are happy to be standardizing on this while retaining control via management policies.

You can go download this now here, or as the rollout commences via Windows Update in the coming weeks. This will work side by side with as many (or as little) of the other dev channels as you want. On Windows 10 this will replace the legacy Edge (Blue IE-style logo). Well done Edge Team! I look forward to seeing more of your work!
